With over 42,000 students making up 20% of Cardiff’s total population, student housing is an essential part of sustaining the cities future growth. One extensive development to increase student housing availability is the nearly completed Howards Garden Student Accommodation, Cardiff.
Designed by Stride Treglown, the new-build 671 bedroom student accommodation scheme is located in Cardiff city centre on the site formerly occupied by the Cardiff Metropolitan University’s School of Art and Design until its relocation to the Llandaff campus in September 2014.
Undertaken on behalf of Fusion Students, this project has seen contractors Vinci Construction replace the original school with two buildings which draw their design rationale from the existing buildings around the site.
The northern building contains 2,3, 4, and 6-bed apartments whilst the south consists of studios and “twodios”. The campus will also feature community facilities including a library, gym, and cinema to complement the students stay.
Swanmac are installing over 800 roller blinds in the bedrooms and kitchens at Howards Garden Student Accommodation. All ground floor rooms have a twin roller blind system for extra privacy and blackout.
We aim to complete this installation at the end of June and look forward to seeing the result of the whole project.
