Swanmac is delighted to have worked with contractor Balfour Beatty on this student accommodation project which involved the supply and installation of 1200 roller blinds. These blinds are the perfect solution for student accommodation. Stylish, space saving and highly effective they allow students to precisely select the level so light they allow to enter whilst working or sleeping. This is essential for residents, particularly when working on laptops or computer screens.
The University’s aspirational vision stimulated innovation which is reflected in the contractor’s approach to the masterplan, architecture and interior design. The key objective was to provide four-star quality accommodation for 1000 students, within the constraints of a competitive offer. No mean feat!
The result – accommodation that was inspired by the beautiful Welsh landscape in which Aberystwyth sits. Each building offers communal kitchen and living areas, and all bedrooms have en-suite facilities, all fitted-out to a very high standard. It’s this quality that supports the University’s strategy of attracting students from the UK and overseas.
The layout encourages a strong sense of community which is safe and pedestrian friendly. In terms of land use, the design is highly efficient and supports expansion to the west to create a further campus in the future.
