The re-development of a site by Sainsbury’s caused much excitement for residents within Rhondda Cynon Taff and the Cardiff commuter belt.
As a part of a £75 million regeneration led by the council, the arrival of a leading food retailer would help position Pontypridd as a destination from the North and also offer choice to local residents where choice did not previously exist.
The building was designed on stilts, effectively creating an underground car park. The benefits to the store were two-fold. Firstly, this enabled Sainsbury’s to maximise the retail space available and secondly, the covered carpark would allow customers to remain dry – the wet Welsh climate notwithstanding!
Swanmac installed a range of Silent Gliss heavy duty electric roller blinds. Eleven blinds were positioned in the light and airy café/restaurant, providing essential protection from the sun’s heat and glare when needed.
A further 21 roller blinds were installed in the covered walkway – some with a 4.3m drop that required installation by cherry picker due to access restrictions caused by escalators.
This development provided over 200 much needed employment opportunities in the area and the team at Swanmac are delighted to have been a part of it.
