This new school is located on the site of the former Glyn Derw High School, Ely, Cardiff and is intended as a major investment in the local community.
A £36m project jointly funded by the City Council and the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools Programme, the school, designed by architects Powell Dobson will have an eight form-entry and accommodate up to 1200 pupils across three separate, but linked, two-storey buildings
Swanmac is installing over 150 crank-operated roller blinds throughout the school, which have been installed to ensure absolute compliance with child safety regulations. The child safe crank operation eliminates the need for chains or cords and as such, removes the risk of accidental ligature by the children, whilst providing a robust blind that operates with pin-point accuracy.
When complete, the school will become a ‘pathfinder school’ that will enable the school’s pupils to benefit from exciting work experience placements within the creative and cultural sector of the city.
