Following a commitment to training in the South Wales region for the next half-century, The Royal Marine Reserves in Wales are to be moved to a brand new, £11m facility, HMS Cambria, in Cardiff Bay!
Originally based in Cardiff Docks, and latterly in Penarth, the new site is situated on land that has been long-leased from Associated British Ports and will be home to the Royal Naval Reserves, Royal Marine Reserves and University Royal Naval Units.
Morgan Sindall is the appointed contractor for this project which began in January 2019. It comprises of 4,000 ft of accommodation for up to 50 personnel, training and classroom facilities for 80 along with dining areas, an armoury plus rope training area and a parade square. There will also be docking and access to the facility for visiting warships.
The new site will be ready for operation in early 2020 and the Swanmac team will be on-site in December 2019 to install heavy-duty roller blinds.
