The Royal Mint in Llantrisant, south Wales is Britain’s oldest manufacturer, with a history stretching back some one thousand years.
In 2015 work began on a new Visitor Centre called ‘The Royal Mint Experience’ which aims to showcase important people and events that have impacted the coins that we use on a daily basis. The centre offers an interactive experience to visitors and showcases the manufacturing journey from concept to the final pressed coin.
The contract for this impressive £7.5 million facility was awarded to ISG Construction; single storey with cladding designed to remind visitors of the unique 50 pence piece, the building includes exhibition space, a café and educational spaces for school parties.
Maintenance of light and heat in this eco rated building is crucial to a successful visitor experience and to support this, Swanmac supplied and installed electrically operated blinds to the main elevation, together with window manifestations.
We’re delighted to say that the centre opened in May 2016 to mint reviews!
