The new Fitzalan High School in Cardiff is a £64m development located close to its predecessor. Sharing facilities with the nearby Cardiff International Sports Campus, the school will become a valuable community asset for the staff, its 1850 pupils and the wider local community.

From the outset, the brief to Austin-Smith:Lord Architects was for an inspirational environment that allowed staff to deliver the curriculum uniquely and responsively as required by the school’s pupils. This meant that the school would need to accommodate flexibility and move away from traditional teaching styles and classroom methods

The building is over 17,000 sq ft and 3 storeys high, with disabled access throughout.  Natural light has been a key part of its design, with large windows and an open-plan design facilitating this.  Pupils also benefit from two 3G pitches plus hard and soft play areas.

Swanmac has been appointed to install 100 blackout roof blinds during the summer of 2024. These blinds elegantly provide shade across large roof spaces and help those in the building manage the temperature and solar glare.  These blinds are made of fabrics designed to withstand temperature extremes to ensure that they remain in pristine condition.
