In November 2019, work commenced on the development of the brand-new Gwent Police Headquarters on the Llantarnum Industrial Estate, Cwmbran.
It will replace the existing, now out-dated building which requires such updating and maintenance work that it has become financially unviable. With almost 5,500 sq m of space and a multi-storey car park with space for up to 490 cars the new design will allow the force to introduce ‘agile working’ throughout its service and move towards ‘digital policing’. It will be home to the force control room which is where all 999 and 101 calls are received. It will also provide a base for major crime teams, support services and senior force management.
This project was tendered for between Atkins and BAM Construction. It has required close collaboration from all stakeholders due to the constraint of a tight site. Despite these challenges, it has been delivered to BIM Level 2 and has also achieved BREEAM Excellent.
Chief Constable Pam Kelly said: “Our new headquarters will give us a building that is fully functional and fit for the purpose of modern policing. It will enable us to utilise new technology and cutting-edge approaches to provide the best possible support to our front-line teams, and to better look after the wellbeing of our staff.”
Swanmac’s installers will be onsite to install over 200 heavy-duty roller blinds to all external window during the Autumn. Our blinds will support the creation of a comfortable and safe working environment, contributing to staff wellbeing thanks to the protection they provide from the sun’s glare.
