A new Science and Engineering building for Manchester Metropolitan University is currently under construction. At an investment of £82m, the project involves the demolition of two existing buildings and the construction of a new building with around 14,000 sq m of floor space plus the refurbishment of some existing science and engineering laboratories.
The new building has been designed to be sustainable and act as a ‘living lab’; it will showcase science and engineering and promote collaboration with tech-based businesses in the Manchester area.
Collaboration is a consistent theme with three lower floors creating a continuous flow of space in which undergraduates will learn and balconies will support and create a single learning community. A 4-storey ‘research box’ will provide academic workspace.
The team from Swanmac Ltd will be onsite in August 2023 to install sunscreen roller blinds with powder-coated facia covers to all external windows. Our wipe-clean and durable sunscreen fabric combined with powder-coating means that these blinds will withstand considerable usage and when cleaned, will look pristine for a very long time.
