400 years ago the Mayflower left Plymouth to transport the first English Pilgrims (totalling 102) to America. As a part of a series of commemorations for this sailing, a cutting-edge and interactive centre called The Box is under development.

Transforming the Grade II listed City Museum and Art Gallery and Central Library, plus St Luke’s Church in the city centre, contractor Willmott Dixon is carrying out works that are due to be completed in the Spring of 2020.

The Box will include exhibition and gallery spaces, five of which will be permanent and include artefacts, films, prized collections and historical documents. Additional spaces will be available for local and touring exhibitions.

Swanmac will be on-site during August 2019 to supply and install a range electrically operated blackout roller blinds. Enabling flexibility at height through remote operation is an important aspect of this installation as it is vital that works of art and documents are protected from the harm that direct sunlight can cause. Motorisation of these blinds results in easy adjustment of the blinds, even when at height, through hand-held controls.

We’re looking forward to working on site this Summer and seeing such a historical re-generation take place!
