The Winterstoke Hundred Academy is to undergo a £30m expansion which will include a sixth form and provide first-class education initially to pupils. This number will grow through a further expansion to a future capacity of 1,200.
Sustainability is a key aspect of the school with the curriculum specialising in environmental science and climate change. The expansion itself will be net-zero thanks to the use of high-performance building fabrics, PV panels and Passive design. It will also have its own on-site energy generation and recycling facilities to reduce carbon emissions plus cycle storage for pupils enabling the option of cycling to school.
Team Swanmac will be on-site to deliver a multi-product installation, including crank-operated roller blinds, crank-operated blackout blinds, electric blackout blinds and window film.
Supporting an eco-strategy, sunscreen roller blinds provide protection from the sun’s rays but also help to maintain temperatures within the building, supporting the reduced use of generated heating. Similarly, window film helps to manage room temperatures whilst helping to improve safety both visually and in the strengthening of glass doors, windows and partitions.
