What is the difference between privacy and solar window film?

The purpose of solar film is to reflect and absorb the heat from the sun, which helps to control the heat inside any room with exterior glass windows.  Our standard solar film is called Silver 20, and it offers maximum heat rejection which helps to prevent solar heat gains in rooms and sun glare issues.

How effective is solar film?

Silver 20 solar film reflects 52% of solar energy and absorbs 35% of it.  The film also has the further advantage of rejecting 99% of ultraviolet light (UV).

Another benefit of this film is that it retains internal heat. During the winter months, this helps keep the building warm which helps to reduce energy bills, as well as air conditioning bills during the summer months.  Generally, when this film is fitted to the interior of a window, visibility looking through the window to the outside is clear but shaded, whilst from the outside, it provides a reflective mirror effect looking in.

What are the benefits of privacy (frosted) film?

Privacy (or frosted) film has the purpose of obscuring visibility on both sides of the window it is applied to, which therefore creates the desired private environment.

Privacy film additionally reflects 49% of solar energy and absorbs 42% and still has the benefit of rejecting up to 99% of ultraviolet light (UV).  It is commonly used in toilet or shower rooms when privacy is of the utmost importance.  It can also be used as a decorative film by both printing and cutting into bespoke window graphics and manifestation. This provides safety in alerting staff and customers to the fact that a window is present and is also a useful branding tool.
